Chamois Butter(flies)

Nervous..

The DALMAC is tomorrow. I hope I packed good. Hard to anticipate exactly what I will need. At least it seems like the weather is going to cooperate. Spodda be a little cold at night, so I did have to pack warmer clothes.

When I get back, you shall hear about the trails and tribulations of the ride!

Also - I am going to begin spec'in the rest of the parts for my Niner!

I hope the wind is out of the Southwest for the next four days!

Ca$hing in some bonus points

So.... I order a lot bike parts/etc from the website
href="http://www.performancebicycle.com">
They seem to have great prices for components, and some great sales. The selection is weak sometimes, but they carry the main lines for drivetrain.

Anywho

If you join their "club" for $20, you can bank 10% of your payments - and turn them in towards the purchase price of items in the future. I ended up using my reward money towards a shimano 970 cassette.

Still need the wheels on the bike to go round and round....

Get a handle on it

I just received the set of handlebars I purchased for my Niner bike. I had a tough time deciding between carbon fiber, or going with a more durable material. I ended up going with Scandium.

Why?

I abuse the heck outta my handlebars. It just took me one glance on my super heavy Bontragger handle bars on my Trek 4500 bike. They are bashed to crap! So... I was surfing the net, and ended up finding a screaming deal on the Easton DH Scandium Riser Bar. Here is a pic:

I don't like all the "ads" on the handlebars, but the silver color is kick ass...
Heavier than carbon fiber, but shouldn't leave me stranded.

I need some "wheels" to be able to attach the deraillers, and size up a stem for the handlebars - along with cutting the fork down.

"What the fork? Its starting to look like a bike!"

Here is the Niner build so far:

The Crank Brothers Cobalt Crank has been installed on the Crank Bro's Ti Bottom Bracket.

A Reba Rock Shock Si shock has been installed with a Silver Hope Headset. I was originally going to install a Chris King Headset, but was having issues with getting it shipped on time. I am very pleased with the Hope Headset though.

I forgot to get an overall weight, but it wouldn't be correct anyways - because I need to cut down the fork yet.

The next MAJOR purchase will be a wheelset....

A couple hunnert

I went on a real nice bike ride from Sault St. Marie to Bremley this weekend. The overall ride ended up being just less than 30 miles. I really need to “up” the ante in regards to getting mileage under my belt. I will pass 200 miles pedaling on the way home from work today for total miles this summer on the road bike. I have additional mileage on the mountain bike, but haven’t been tracking that.

I need to swallow my pride and buy some good biker shorts. I have been ending up bow legged on the long distance rides. I have always been a baggy shorts fella…

I was finally able to hook up with the bike shop build. The BB, crank, headset, and fork have all been installed. I will provide pics as soon as possible. My computer access at home is fooked, so I am busting out this quick blog at work (which I don’t normally do)… Its just been too long since I posted. The new internet access is supposed to be installed at my house tomorrow.
